We found that a good way of teaching music was to mix in some interesting computer games that are aimed at developing rhythm and timing. The students took to this so enthusiastically that we decided to develop a Games Arcade and use this as part of a break for a music workshop day. However, things developed rapidly and we soon saw the need to create a dedicated arcade where young people can games with other students and interact with them, as well as being supervised by our own tutors. We have not kitted out our room with a variety of fun packed games and equipment. We now have the following:
100 inch projector screen for playing multi user games such as Mario Karts, Smash Bros with up to 6 players at a time
Oculus VR Quest headsets to experience being underwater, flying a plane, racing a car, or challenging Darth Vadar!
Drum and Rhythm interactive games
Vintage games table for 2 players to interact
We have hosted 5 hour workshops where the students get to experience all fo the games with the benefit of tutors who help them get the best out of the games and ensure they have fun!
MaxRock studio is based just around the corner from Banbury centre, off the Southam Road right opposite the Amazon warehouse.
